"Oh, no, Katy-Did-'nt!"

"Oh, yes, Katy-Did!"

I've been wanting to say that ever since the katydids descended upon Long Hollow a few weeks ago!

Their season seems to have passed... or at least they're not hanging out on our porch like they were when I snapped these photos last week.

Most of them were leaf green, but this golden one liked me and followed me around, begging me to take his portrait.

He was a great model, even for close-ups!

I love the design of his wings
(despite being a little cockroach-ish)

...and aren't his eyes amazing?
They really are that neon green.

You wouldn't catch me holding one, but I didn't mind them chilling on my porch.
I hope they come back next summer!

  3. I agree, the design on his wings is so cool. You got some great captures here. Don't think I've ever seen a katydid that close.

    1. I never had before, either! It's weird how flowers and insects and birds can change from year to year!

    1. I didn't know they had green eyes until I popped the photos on my computer. That's one of the things I love about photography!

    1. Don't tell him I said this, but I think the green ones might be prettier, although their eyes don't pop like his. Hope you had a Happy Tuesday yourself, Catherine!

    1. I've heard them for years, but thought they were the cicadas! Just proves you're never too old to learn something new, right? I'm not sure why they decided to venture up to the house this year, but I'm glad they did!
