Crape Myrtles, At Last!

Several years ago we planted three crape myrtles covered in gorgeous fuchsia blooms in a small raised bed at the top of our walk.

They've hardly bloomed since.

Last year I even carried buckets of water up the hill to water them in the hottest, driest part of the summer to coax them.

No luck.

So this year I decided to ignore them.

And look what happened...

Crape Myrtle, Sun-Loving Color of the South

God lessens the double-whammy misery of heat and humidity here in Texas with a blessing of summer-loving crape myrtles. I made an exception to my "nothing but wild-scape" plans by planting three at the top of our walkway to greet visitors.

They finally bloomed for me...

I wasn't the only one admiring the new blossoms...

This is a PS to my summer wildflowers post - how I could forget something this unique?
