"Oh, yes, Katy-Did!"
I've been wanting to say that ever since the katydids descended upon Long Hollow a few weeks ago!
Their season seems to have passed... or at least they're not hanging out on our porch like they were when I snapped these photos last week.
Most of them were leaf green, but this golden one liked me and followed me around, begging me to take his portrait.
He was a great model, even for close-ups!
I love the design of his wings
(despite being a little cockroach-ish)
...and aren't his eyes amazing?
They really are that neon green.
You wouldn't catch me holding one, but I didn't mind them chilling on my porch.
I hope they come back next summer!
no fair! your katydids have left you already and our grasshoppers are still EVERYWHERE!? for WEEKS!!!! and WEEEKS!!!
ReplyDeleteI think they're still in the trees, if that makes you feel any better. lol I can hear them! (Man, they're LOUD!)
DeleteOh very cool photography. He is kind of cute, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteI think so!!
DeleteI agree, the design on his wings is so cool. You got some great captures here. Don't think I've ever seen a katydid that close.
ReplyDeleteI never had before, either! It's weird how flowers and insects and birds can change from year to year!
DeleteAmazing shots, Barbara... you KNOW I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miz A - and how are you coming with your new camera??
DeleteWow! I never realized they had green eyes, Barbara.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great series of photographs!
Sending you wishes for a wonderful day ahead!
I didn't know they had green eyes until I popped the photos on my computer. That's one of the things I love about photography!
DeleteGosh ~ I've never seen a bug like this. He is a pretty color!
ReplyDeleteCool!
Happy Tuesday Barbara!
xo Catherine
Don't tell him I said this, but I think the green ones might be prettier, although their eyes don't pop like his. Hope you had a Happy Tuesday yourself, Catherine!
DeleteI can hear them in the park (just across the street) nightly .. but I'd never seen one before .. fascinating
ReplyDeleteI've heard them for years, but thought they were the cicadas! Just proves you're never too old to learn something new, right? I'm not sure why they decided to venture up to the house this year, but I'm glad they did!
DeleteLOL .. pretty great photos of these guys! Love the detail!
ReplyDeleteThey were so interesting!!
