Playtime

I'm still going through my horse photos from a few weeks ago.

She asked for a few to post in 'for sale' ads.
I took over 200.

It's a sickness, I tell you.

What did I learn from this shoot, besides the fact that I take way too many photos, which actually isn't something new?

1. My 50mm lens rocks. It was on this shoot that I discovered my 70-300 zoom - my favorite - was sick.  It's now off in the Nikon hospital, getting its focus mechanisms repaired. I miss it, but its absence forced me to lean on my little 50, and it jumped at the chance to prove to me what it could do!

2. I learned other things about courage and stepping out of my comfort zone, but I already wrote about those in Long Hollow, so on to #3.

3. Horses like to play... with actual horse toys! Who knew?

  1. Huh! I did not know that horses liked to play. Love how your nifty 50 captured the horses. I've committed to a photoshoot for my cousin's family and that is the lens recommended for group photos! Can't wait to test it on them. This post kind of cements what I have been seeing online. Thanks!

    1. The only problem with a fixed focal length lens is that you have to move... and sometimes you run out of room! If you're outdoors, it won't be a problem, though. I know you'll do great! Just remember not to leave your aperture wide open, or your focal point will be too small.

  2. ha ha. so cute. yes, i knew there were horse toys - especially for those that have to spend a lot of time confined in a pen or stall.

    1. I wish I could think of the next niche before anyone else! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who shoots and shoots. Yes, the weeding out takes forever!

  7. Oh these are wonderful. I know the feeling of learning to use a lens which has limits. It teaches us that we have fewer limits than we thought. Great stuff.

  8. Barbara, these are beautiful!
The 50mm is really a wonderful lens, and there are so many uses for it.

  9. Neat horsey-play shots! I wonder what other kinds of toys they have.

  10. Great horsey shots! And they have toys! Who knew? Sorry to hear about your 70-300mm lens. What was the issue? I've been thinking mine is not performing as well as it used to. Maybe it needs some tuning?

    1. That's funny, Reena! They say the problem with my lens is the focus mechanism itself. Apparently, they wear out :( Mine was working fine, then suddenly it wouldn't focus, either in auto or manual. It sounds like yours might get by with some tuning.
