Out running errands earlier this week,
I spotted this train,
and,
well,
you know...
The only way of catching a train I ever discovered is to
miss the train before.

This is the Hill Country Flyer, a vintage train that runs between two small towns near us. Tom and I rode it a few years ago on my birthday - I highly recommend riding an old train at least once in your life, just to experience that feel and rhythm of the tracks. Music for the soul.

some great captures of a time gone past.
ReplyDeleteOut of all these photos my favorite is the Hill Country Flyer. The quotes you paired with each photo are perfect. Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics and super quotes to go with!!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I rode an Old train before we were married. The Potomac Eagle Express in Romney WV. It was super - and we got to see Eagles along the way.
What a cool train. I'd love to ride the rails in an old train one day. Yes, I did note that one photo was taken through the fence and I love the effect. Really great captures, treatments and quotes.
ReplyDeletegreat shots! love the sepia tone best! but that shot thru the fence is a close second!
ReplyDeleteI wish we had more train service in the US. I took a steam train from Houston to Galveston and back and really enjoy the journey dispite the flat terrain :-) Thanks for sharing these and finding the perfect quotes.
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous shots! I love riding old steam trains and have done so many times.
ReplyDeleteNice photos!!
ReplyDelete@Gail, all of these are cars on the Hill Country Flyer. That orange is SOOC!
ReplyDelete@Kerri, I can only imagine how beautiful a train ride through WV would be - gorgeous country!
@Debbie, I've wanted to take that train ride, too. Maybe one day...
Thanks, everyone!
I spent three days on a train traveling from Vancouver to Toronto way back in the long-ago-and-far-away. It was a wonderful (and weird) experience.
ReplyDeleteIt really forces you to slow down, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteawesome train photos! I can just imagine 1940s soldiers hanging out the window, blowing kisses to the girls in dresses outside :)

Terrific trains. We rode a steam train a couple of times in England, and once in Northern Ireland, but sadly that one is no longer running. Some of those old trains look very like the rolling stock British Rail used to run when I commuted into London in the 1980s! I think they finally managed to update most of it after the railway was privatised, but the old clunky doors were much loved by late passengers (late as in late, not dead!) - you could hold up the train by keeping a door open for someone in those days. Nowadays I guess they are nearly all electric.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara,
ReplyDeletewe are here in AZ for the winter..and it is warm..92 today...love yur quotes and hoots of the train..Jim and I try to ride the rails as often as we can..maybe I was a hobo in my former life...as well..your dog's photo shoot is wonderful!
they add so much joy into our lives and are missed each day that they are not.
xo
@Simi - I love that image!
ReplyDelete@Izzwizz - what great memories. I'd say how fun to have been able to ride these, but I imagine it only seems like it would be fun if you don't have to do it.
@Dagmar - can't believe you're already back in Arizona! Enjoy the sunshine and warm temps!
There is just something about trains that I love, and this is a beauty. i love the black and whites!
ReplyDeleteGlad I found you; I too love shooting photos..everywhere I go. I especially enjoy the dog pics...so sweet.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos and the editing is just awesome. I got to ride a train last year with my daughter and her family. It was a modern contraption, but it was still a train.
ReplyDeleteLove your train shots and quotes about travel. I grew up in a family full of railroaders and travel on trains which I love. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone!
ReplyDelete@Jeanne... I bet that was so much fun growing up around trains!
Lovely shots! The soft tones of the monochrome ones are beautiful. Thank you for sharing and for linking up at Tones on Tuesday!
